Spring allergies are bothersome for everyone who suffers from them. From itchy eyes, palate, and nose, to headaches and fatigue.
Some simple changes in our lifestyle can help you not suffer so much, since these types of allergies are nothing more than an exaggerated reaction of the body, with its consequent secretion of histamine, which is what causes the symptoms.
To prevent:
- Live according to the seasons and following biological cycles, for example by eating seasonal foods, sleeping more in winter and spending a lot of time in nature and exposing yourself to the sun in a healthy way, for example with morning walks, so that your body can process Vitamin D.
- Take probiotics: Spring allergies are exaggerated reactions of our immune system to organisms that aren't necessarily harmful. If your immune system is strong, it won't need to overreact to them.
- It contains trace elements : Manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and copper help with common allergic reactions such as itching and watery eyes. Magnesium helps reduce fatigue.
- Increase your intake of Omega-3 (found in fish, flax seeds, algae, eggs, grass-fed meat, and supplements)
- In late winter and spring, increase your intake of dietary fiber, either as part of your diet or as a supplement —this is our favorite —to promote healthy elimination and support your body's natural renewal processes. You can also take a supplement to activate liver detoxification, such as these Black Radish and Artichoke ampoules.
Hygiene:
- Change the air conditioning and heating filters every 3 months.
- Keep your vacuum cleaner filters clean so that it vacuums well and removes dust, pollen, and other substances that can aggravate allergies.
- Open the windows daily, keep the house clean, wash the sheets weekly, and vacuum the mattresses monthly.
- Use a neti pot to clean your nasal passages. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but once you get used to it, it's easy and the relief is instant, though temporary.
- Prevent mold from growing in bathrooms and other damp areas of the house. Open windows and use a fan to dry surfaces, for example, and let in sunlight whenever possible.
- If you use a humidifier, make sure it is clean and free of mold.
- Spray rosemary, eucalyptus, and/or peppermint essential oils to help clear nasal passages. See essential oils.
To treat allergies:
- For spring allergies, asthma, and mild food allergies, perilla is recommended because it has a high content of rosmaniric acid, flavonoids, and alpha-linoleic acid, which have an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effect.
- Another supplement that helps alleviate allergy symptoms is Leriform from Intersa , which contains goldenseal, fumitory and vitamin C among other ingredients.
- Also the Composor 23 from Soria Natural , with hyssop, fumitory and blackcurrant among others.
- For itching and congestion, Quercetin - a flavonoid that controls histamine - prevents the lungs, nasal passages and eyes from swelling and prevents itching.
- For allergies that cause dermatitis, helichrysum , also called Goldenseal, stimulates the body's production of hydrocortisone, a natural antihistamine. It can be used on the affected skin and around the eyes by soaking a cotton ball in the solution and applying it to closed eyes.
- Children suffer a lot from spring allergies; Intersa Labs has a specific product for children, Leriform Kids , with goldenseal and fumitory among other ingredients.
- If you're away from home, these Esential'Aroms inhalers can help relieve congestion quickly.
