Who are we?
Salud Mediterránea is a herbalist company with over 30 years in the sector. We have two stores in Madrid, in the Manuel Becerra area (Ortega y Gasset, 77) and Atocha (Paseo Sta. María de la Cabeza, 3).
Our customers say we are one of the best vitamin and food supplement stores in Madrid. We also have herbal and aromatherapy products, and natural cosmetics from the best brands, such as Nature's Plus, Solaray, Dr. Hauschka, Weleda, Ynsadiet, Soria Natural, as well as our own brands, Árbol Verde and Esencia Verde.
We also have three of our own brands that follow our motto: Quality and Good Price. Under our Árbol Verde brand, you'll find vitamins and food supplements with high-quality ingredients at the best prices. Esencia Verde is a line of natural cosmetics ranging from high-quality, single-ingredient products—like 100% Organic Shea Butter—to formulas to keep your skin healthy and beautiful, such as our hyaluronic acid serum. Botánica Verde is our extensive range of dried plants.
The story of Salud Mediterránea is the story of a family, with the fourth generation now working in the company.
In the 1960s, Don Amador González opened the Tripas Warehouse in Madrid's Paseo Santa María de la Cabeza, a traditional shop where they sold ingredients for making sausages, including natural casings and La Vera paprika, as well as pure honey and mint candies.
At that time, Mr. Julio, who had worked for the González family since he was young, was in charge of the store. From there, he served customers year after year, assisting them in purchasing the best ingredients.
In 1987, Don Amador's grandson, Hugo, and his wife, Nancy, joined the business eager to learn and continue the tradition. However, they quickly noticed that the traditional sausage-making process was being lost and that modernization was necessary to keep the business going.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, they experimented with different products to introduce to the shop, including royal jelly and soy lecithin. The couple began to take an interest in natural and organic products, bringing them both to the shop and to their home. Almacén de Tripas (Tripe Warehouse) was starting to resemble a herbalist shop more than a traditional health food store, and it was during a family dinner in 1994 that the idea arose to change the name to Salud Madrid (Health Madrid) and reconfigure the shop into a center for natural and healthy food.
In May 2002, with Salud Madrid already established as one of the leading herbalists in the capital, a second store opened on Ortega y Gasset Street. The store was modern but maintained the same traditional, family-run character. At that time, the family enjoyed a healthy lifestyle centered on natural and organic food.
In 2003, Don Amador's great-granddaughter launched the online store, currently saludmediterranea.com, with the aim of bringing quality products to all provinces of Spain.
With the idea of continuing to serve a wider audience, in January 2006 the family decided to change the name to Mediterranean Health and began producing high-quality supplements and cosmetics at low prices, marketed in stores under the name Green Tree and Green Essence.
From April 2025, Hugo and Nancy's daughters will take over the company, bringing to the herbalists the experience of having worked in the stores since childhood, years of work in large companies and media, as well as their commitment and personal experience in health and wellness.
Throughout all these years our motto has not changed, Quality and Good Price since 1988, because although year after year, and with the opening of each new store, the business has been modernized, we are aware that customer service, the quality of our products and affordable prices are the pillars of our company.
