Cómo moverte todos los días

My job requires me to sit for most of the day, which we know isn't good for your health. That's why finding ways to move around every day—beyond simply dedicating time to exercise—is super important to me.

Before the pandemic started, I went to the gym three times a week, but I didn't move the other four days. I spent hours sitting in front of the computer, barely moving. Since I stopped going to the gym because it closed during the state of emergency, however, I'm much more active. How is that possible?

1- I take a walk every day. In the morning, after taking the children to school and before starting work, my husband and I go for a walk. If we have time, it's a long one; if not, a shorter one. This walk has become essential for me; it's not just exercise, it's also a moment when we're alone and can talk.

2- Short workout routines: When exercising at home, I can do workout routines (following trainer videos) depending on the time I have. On weekends I do 30-40 minute routines or go for a run, during the week I usually do 15-20 minute ones. There have been days when I only have time for 5 or 10 minutes, which isn't much, but it's better than nothing.

3. Walking to the phone: When I have a meeting or phone call that doesn't require me to be taking notes, I try to walk while I talk. This allows me to keep working while I'm moving.

4- Activities: On weekends when the weather is nice, I try to take the children for walks in the countryside or bike rides (I have my own bike too). I like the movie and blanket plan, but I leave that for the evenings/nights, after we've spent the day out and about.

5- Join in the fun: I always try to be ready to move with the children; I play dolls, jump rope, dance to their favorite songs, and even do somersaults to show them how. It doesn't matter what it is, the important thing is that I move, participate with them, and teach them that growing up doesn't mean you have to stop moving and having fun.

6- Social plans that involve movement: It's still difficult to socialize, but when I have the opportunity, I try to socialize while I'm active, instead of just meeting up for coffee. For example, when I meet up with my sister or a friend, we usually go for a walk. You can also meet up to play padel, do yoga, go hiking, etc. (following the health recommendations where you are).

This form of daily movement doesn't necessarily replace the gym/training, nor does the gym replace daily movement. It also won't make you lose weight or give you stronger arms, but it will help you be healthier by reducing your sedentary lifestyle, which is very harmful to your health.

In my experience, moving every day—whether it's doing yoga, dancing for a while, or walking—makes you want to move more and more.

How do you manage to move your body every day?
