Description

Krill oil is a product rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, choline, and astaxanthin.
Krill (Euphausia superba) is a small crustacean that inhabits the Antarctic Ocean, where it serves as food for large cetaceans. Krill feeds on marine phytoplankton, which makes it rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, choline, and... astaxanthin.
The difference between krill oil (from crustaceans) and fish oil is that the Omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil are in the form of phospholipids, which are more bioavailable and more easily absorbed by the body. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish, on the other hand, are in the form of triglycerides.
Phospholipids, such as those in krill oil, help transport EPA and DHA to cells, are part of the cell membrane, regulate cholesterol, and are involved in proper lung function.
Choline helps keep the liver healthy by removing fat and aids in detoxification. convert food into energy, being beneficial for the brain and for athletic performance.
Omega-3 benefits to the heart, the brain, the joints and the mucous membranes.
Krill oil also provides astaxanthin, a carotenoid with a strong antioxidant effect that gives the product its typical red color and which, unlike other carotenoids, does not convert into vitamin A, the excess of which can be harmful.
Krill oil has similar effects to fish oil on serum lipids, oxidative stress, and inflammation, but unlike fish oil, it works even with lower doses of EPA and DHA. People on blood thinning medication should consult their doctor before taking this supplement.
Herbolario S. Mediterránea's Krill Oil has the Eco Harvesting seal, which certifies a unique capture system that avoids the accidental fishing of other species.
