Cuando los años no pesan

Are you getting older?

Yes, I do. And believe it or not, I don't care.

I don't mind because I truly feel that growing older is a luxury that not everyone enjoys.

Furthermore, I feel that what we in our society are usually afraid of is not growing old itself, but the symptoms of old age:

  • Wrinkles and gray hair
  • Dolores
  • Lack of energy
  • General health problems

Perhaps I don't mind getting older because I don't yet have most of these symptoms: I don't have any health problems, and, in general, I don't have joint pain or lack energy. In fact, in many ways I feel better now in my forties than I did when I was 25. I'm not just saying that; I'm much healthier now than I was then, and I can see it in my skin, my energy levels, and my mobility.

What I do have are gray hairs and wrinkles, and I don't love them, but I'm trying not to let them bother me. For now, I cover the gray hairs with henna, although I've been thinking about letting my hair go naturally gray for a while. And I minimize the wrinkles by taking care of my skin both externally (with cleansers, oils, and creams) and internally (a healthy lifestyle, water).

I hope to continue growing older for many years, and I intend to do so naturally and in the healthiest way possible. I believe everyone deserves to enjoy their age to the fullest, and although it may sound repetitive, a healthy diet and lifestyle are the best way to achieve that.

In addition, here are some tips that I hope will help you age well.

Dolores:

  • Get moving. If you're aching all over in the mornings, it could be because you're not moving enough. I have scoliosis, and the less I move, the more my back hurts. For me, moderate running, walking, and yoga are essential for staying in shape. Find the exercise that works best for you—physically and mentally—and do it whenever you can, and rest as much as you need.
  • Supplements: At specific times I have taken turmeric , which helps with inflammation, and collagen , which helps maintain joint health.
  • Quality of life: A suitable mattress - mine is firm and made of natural latex - is essential to avoid morning aches and pains.

Energy:

  • Diet: My father always says that some foods give you energy and others drain it. When I eat foods that make me feel sluggish, I always think about this. Healthy protein, whole grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits are the foundation of a healthy diet.
  • Sleep: Going to bed late is a thing of the past for me. And thank goodness, because with the hectic days I've been having, getting 7 hours of sleep is absolutely essential.
  • Exercise: It's strange, but the more I move, the more energy I have. There's a simple scientific explanation for this. When you exercise, your cardiovascular system improves, becomes more efficient, and gives you more energy.

Health Problems:

  • Diet: Many chronic diseases can be improved with diet and lifestyle, which will increase your quality of life despite health problems.
  • Supplements: Supplements are increasingly used as complementary treatments for various illnesses because they can enhance their effectiveness or help reduce the amount of medication needed to manage those illnesses. Talk to your healthcare provider to find the most natural and beneficial way to manage your health concerns.
