Preparing for the return from vacation is more difficult for me than preparing for the departure. On the one hand, the whole family is tired, usually eager to go home, and at the same time sad that the vacation is over.
On the other hand, if you've been traveling, you probably haven't had access to a kitchen to prepare food for the trip, nor to your favorite grocery store to buy the best snacks.
This is what we do to be able to finish our trips as healthy as we started them.
Stick to your diet: Although I'm a big supporter of indulging ourselves on vacation, always with natural foods, it's important that the day before returning we eat healthily to avoid possible discomfort the next day.
Look for healthy snacks: You can find fresh fruit and nuts (even if they're not organic) in almost any supermarket, and increasingly in airports. Take them with you on your return trip and try to eat them instead of unhealthy food. (We never eat airplane food.)
Move around: Try to move around before and after your trip Do everything you can. If you have time, take a walk or go for a run before you travel. If you don't have time, do some quick exercises before, during, and after your trip, such as jumping or stretching. Children need to move too; many airports have play structures for them, or you can help them move by playing with them during waiting times.
Stay hydrated: It's easy to get dehydrated while traveling, especially if you've spent the previous day in the sun or playing sports. Drink water and don't rely on soda or coffee to stay awake.
When I get home, I eat healthy: If I have time, I stop by the market on my way home to buy something quick but healthy for dinner. Whole-wheat pasta with broccoli, dressed with tamari sauce and toasted sesame seeds , for example. When I get home, I also soak some legumes to cook the next day, ensuring a simple and nutritious meal.
Facial treatment: Skin suffers a lot during travel. After showering, treat yourself to a hydrating facial. Our face masks and cucumber toner make it easy.
Time for bed: Even if you feel like staying up to organize, do laundry, or simply enjoy your home, go to bed early so you can start the next day as rested as possible.
