Taking care of a new pet

We had wanted a dog for a long time, and on January 2nd we adopted a little dog.

We are all very fond of Jengibre, a dog that doesn't have the characteristics we thought we wanted, but is still perfect for our family.

• We wanted a medium-sized dog - it's going to weigh over 30 kg, and possibly quite a bit more because it's a mix of Great Pyrenees and a type of Australian Shepherd
• We wanted a puppy - we adopted Ginger when she was about 7 months old

Her personality is very calm and gentle. The few months of her life haven't been easy for Ginger, so we wanted to give her a calm welcome with few changes.

Because of this, and because we adopted her suddenly, I haven't yet looked into what the best food for her would be—there are all kinds of dog food—with grains, without grains, with 'gourmet' meats, with chicken or salmon, or both. I'm willing to see what the best way to feed her will be.

In our store we have vitamins and supplements for dogs—many large breed dogs can have joint problems, so we give them glucosamine. Omega-3 fatty acids are, just as they are for humans, very beneficial.

For now, Jengibre is only taking preventative medication for ticks and parasites, but I'm also going to delve into this aspect of his care.

For now, our little dog loves to eat, sleep, and play—although only for short periods, because even though she runs very fast, she gets tired quickly—and I'm happy that her favorite place in the house is under my desk.
