Ceylon cinnamon ( Cinnamomum zeylanicum or Cinnamomum verum ), also called true cinnamon, originates from Ceylon (formerly Sri Lanka), although it is also cultivated in other parts of Asia. It is one of the most widely used spices, both in cooking and for medicinal purposes.
Cinnamon is primarily used for its hypoglycemic properties; cinnamon helps reduce blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes and improves insulin metabolism. It is also very effective in people with prediabetes.
