The traditional use of herbal infusions is well known, although perhaps less so their cosmetic applications for relieving skin problems . However, plants and infusions have been used for many years in poultices to alleviate skin conditions.

These three infusions are the most suitable for problem skin, cleansing, moisturizing and relieving the most bothersome symptoms.

Burdock: It is a plant native to Europe and Asia, belonging to the Asteraceae family, like sunflowers, due to the star-shaped arrangement of its flowers. The stem and root are typically used, and its medicinal use dates back to at least the mid-9th century. It is used in Japanese cuisine—especially in the macrobiotic diet—and also in Brazil. Topically, it decongests, reduces inflammation, heals damaged skin, and cleanses impurities. A burdock root infusion mask can be particularly beneficial for people with acne.

Calendula: If there's one plant that's the ultimate remedy for skin problems, it's calendula. That's why it's so common to see it among the ingredients of some of the best cosmetics, especially those designed for babies and sensitive skin. Calendula is antiseptic and healing, soothes redness, and is nourishing and anti-aging. Along with essential fatty acids, calendula oil is rich in vitamin E (tocopherol) and terpene compounds, which provide protection and nourishment to cells to maintain youthful, radiant skin. For cosmetic use, the calendula flower is typically used. A calendula infusion mask is recommended for people with extremely sensitive skin.

Ginkgo Biloba: Ginkgo biloba has been used medicinally for thousands of years. The seeds of the Ginkgo biloba tree are commonly used in cooking in Asia, as are the leaves, which have a pungent odor. Medical researchers are studying Ginkgo for its potential benefits in treating various brain diseases, including dementia, because its consumption increases blood circulation. When applied topically, it stimulates skin circulation, making a Ginkgo biloba leaf infusion a recommended face mask for those with dull, lifeless, or aged complexions.

How to use:

In a bowl or shallow dish, place a teaspoon of the herbal infusion recommended for your skin. Add hot water and let it steep until the infusion has completely cooled. Strain the water and return it to the bowl, adding a compressed Esencia Verde face mask. Let it sit until fully saturated. With clean hands, unroll the mask and place it on your cleansed face. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. Remove the mask, pat your face dry with a soft towel, and apply your favorite moisturizer.
