Cómo cuidarse este verano

The summer months are, on the one hand, a perfect time to take care of ourselves since we have more free time, the temperature invites us to spend more time outdoors, and there are many delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables, but on the other hand, it is a time when routines are left aside and we tend to go out to eat more often and give ourselves more treats in the form of ice cream and other sweets.

I always think that breaking out of routines now and then is wonderful, because the rest helps me return to them with renewed enthusiasm. That's why I believe that during vacations it's great to let loose and enjoy our lives, but I also believe that taking care of ourselves is still possible, easy, and pleasant.

Here are five ways to take care of yourself this summer

1- Add fiber to your diet in the form of a drink. You can prepare a refreshing chia drink that will give you an extra boost of fiber and help prevent constipation. Simply soak a tablespoon of chia seeds in a little water. Once they are hydrated—about 10 or 15 minutes—you can add more water or sparkling water and a splash of lemon juice.

2. Go for a walk in the morning. Before breakfast, put on some sneakers and go for a walk to help regulate your circadian rhythm. If you have a garden or are near the beach, try walking barefoot for an energy boost.

3. Protect your skin from the sun. Of course, use sunscreen—we recommend natural and/or mineral sunscreens—and also take an antioxidant supplement such as beta-carotene or astaxanthin so your skin can fight the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays.

4- If you aren't already, try incorporating strength exercises into your routine. To start, you don't even need weights; you can do squats and push-ups at home, even better if you use resistance bands. Ideally, you should maintain this level of activity and gradually add weights and other exercises.

5. End your day with a few minutes of mindful breathing. I personally like square breathing, although there are other techniques you can use to calm yourself. This article can help you get started.
